Charlemagne is in council with his court because Paris is attacked by Saracens and Orlando, the first of his paladins isn’t in Paris.

So, the emperor sends Rinaldo like Ambassador at the pope, asking him in army.

In the mean time, the wizard Malagigi finds out the cousins Orlando and Rinaldo have duelling for Angelica, a beautiful princess.

So Malagigi separes the two fighters because they had to go to Charlemagne.

At Paris, the two paladins defeat the enemy but, during the night the paladin Ruggero is killed by a Saracen.
